YEAR 7, 8 AND 9 PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

April 10, 2018

Parents will note from the school calendar that these interviews are timed to be held at the start of Semester Two, after parents have received Semester One reports in June. Because of the rollover, the Semester One report will report on Term 0, 1 and 2. The parent/teacher interviews are at the start of Term 3. Parents have the semester break 30 June -22 July to discuss the report with their child, before meeting teachers right at the start of Semester Two. This means parents have all of Term 3 and 4 to make any changes and to work on feedback, while it is also expected that the feedback being provided in an ongoing manner in SEQTA is also being accessed throughout the whole year. SEQTA feedback includes ongoing suggestions for concerns to be addressed or changes made and is intended to ensure that there are no surprises for parents when Semester One reports are received. Information about how to book interviews will be emailed to parents closer to the date.

Rite Journey – great celebration

March 16, 2018

The Year 9 students participated in the Calling and Departure ceremony yesterday morning, bright and early (5:30am) at Sorrento foreshore. The ceremony calls all Year 9 students to accept the challenge of growing up, reflecting on who they are, where they are going and how they will positively contribute to our World. This is obviously a life-long challenge, but yesterday could certainly mark a memory for them as a starting point for their introspection.

A HUGE thank you must go to Nicola Kirby for organising a breakfast feast for about 450 people down on the foreshore – all happily cooked by our house captains and the fabulous Phil Timms and Nicola Resta.

Please join me in congratulating our students on their ceremony AND the Rite Journey staff for their tireless support of our Year 9 students – Sue Libbis, Andrea Tinney, Nicola Kirby, Andre Bourgault, Clay Osborne and Bennet Andrews.

Barista Coffee Tuesday

February 13, 2018

Staff were following the wonderful aroma of fresh coffee today as queues formed in the LPC kitchen.

The hospitality students prepare and serve coffee, mocha,  hot chocolate and heart-shaped jam droplets. They are learning basic skills and confidence to work as a barista. These skills will also help  them to prepare great-tasting coffee at home. Students learn the basic theory of coffee making, origin of coffee, different types of coffee which are commonly served in Australia. They practice  by using a commercial espresso coffee machine all under the watchful eye of Mrs. Penny Herd.

“When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality” – Romans 12:13.

THE RESISTIBLE RISE OF ARTURO UI

By Bertolt Brecht

Rights provided by Alan Brodie Representation

“We get the leaders we deserve.”

Arturo Ui is a small-time gangster with a lust for power. In a city shaken by economic crisis and undermined by corruption, Ui keeps rising and rising until he reaches the very top. When he gets there, he won’t be breaking the law, he’ll be making it.

Written in 1941 as a cautionary satire on the rise of Hitler, Bertolt Brecht’s play is both thrillingly sharp and riotously funny. It has the wit, murder and musicality of a gangster movie while asking a very political question – how do we let a man like that come to power?

Artistic Director, Mrs Kellie Billingsley and the Year 11/12 Drama students bring a bold, visually inventive vision to this great play. This production promises to be a big, entertaining and thought-provoking night out.

The production dates are Wednesday 14th March and 15th March 2018, in the Duncraig Theatre at 7pm.

Tickets will go on sale two weeks before the commencement of these performances.

“Brecht’s anti-fascist study of political power hits home”.

Secondary Swimming Carnival 2018

February 8, 2018

The 2018 swimming carnival was a great success with an excellent level of participation in so many events across all ages and genders. The weather was looking very ordinary first thing in the morning but the cloud cover meant that student’s weren’t getting overheated between events. Thank you to all the volunteers, parents, staff and students for an excellent effort on the day to deliver a fun carnival.

Below are a few snapshots from the day.
