Two Day Immersion in the University Experience
September 14, 2018The Y12 ATAR Biology students were fully immerged in university life during an action packed 2 day experience. Day 1 we visited the Harry Perkins medical research institute where they learned about stem cells and their application to future scientific development. Day 2 they explored nanotechnology and how it will revolutionise the future world developing materials and treatments that seem impossible. They also explored the genetic application in forensics and anthropology so that it can be used to obtain justice and make discoveries.

Year 12 End of Year Information
September 10, 2018
We recently emailed information about celebrating Grad’s Day on Thursday 20 September to our Year 12 cohort. Our Year 12’s are approaching an exciting time and we would like to help them celebrate their departure from the school in a positive, memorable way. We have a wonderful community and exciting plans are underway by the school leaders who are planning our Grads Day Assembly and the Deans are preparing House assemblies. Students have been invited to speak with Mr Andrews with any questions or ideas that might build on the strong positive Grads tradition.
Our formal evening event on 20 September is the Year 12 family Graduation Dinner. The Graduation Dinner recognises and congratulates all Year 12 students on graduating as alumni of St Stephen’s School, separate to the graduation requirements of the WA Certificate of Education.
Year 12 Revision Seminars are being held over the next few weeks, and students are being provided with support and additional revision time as we progress to the end of term. We wish our Year 12 cohort the very best for their written Mock WACE Examinations, which commence in the term break on Tuesday 2 October. The program for the return of Mock Examination results to students will occur in Week 2 of Term 4, from 15-19 October. Students doing General courses or Certificates are expected to have their work submitted by the end of this term.
WACE examinations commence on Thursday 1 November, and Year 12 students can obtain their personalised timetable through their SCSA login. Students were reminded by Dr Criddle, in Education Plus, about the required procedure if something should happen on the day of a WACE exam. The Sickness/Misadventure Application Form is available on the SCSA website at: https://www.scsa.wa.edu.au/forms/forms. Attendance at WACE examinations is a requirement for WACE graduation.
Our best wishes to all our students for a rewarding final few weeks of term.

Swimming Up & Winning Gold
August 28, 2018Service Excursion Timae
July 17, 2018A group of ten year 11 and 12 students went to Ronald McDonald House to participate in their ‘Lovin’ from the Oven’ experience. They made morning tea for the families staying in the house. These families have children who are sick in the new children’s hospital and Ronald McDonald House is very much their ‘home away from home’. The students were also given a tour of the facilities, including seeing inside the rooms which families can stay in, the teen hang out area and the roof top garden.

Exceptional Brush Work
June 26, 2018In an exciting time for our Art Department, three St Stephen’s students have been selected to have their artworks showcased in the esteemed St George’s Art Exhibition.
16th annual exhibition of works by senior art students from Western Australian schools, displayed in Perth’s Gothic Revival Cathedral.
St George’s Art has become a premier annual event in art education in Western Australia, attracting schools from all sectors. Participation in this exhibition provides an outstanding opportunity for schools to present work by students in Years 10, 11 and 12, in the unique setting of St George’s Cathedral.
Congratulations to the following students:

Emi Radziwilska-Melzacka – Year 12

Student Leadership Breakfast
June 26, 2018This term’s Student Leadership breakfast welcomed Mr Mark Wallace, Head of Cyber Security for Fortescue Metals Group, to share some leadership wisdom. Mark provided insight into the complex environments of this organisation, how values and vision guide decision making as well as his own formula for leadership success.
Water on Tap
June 21, 2018After hearing from their peers that a chilled water fountain would be an ideal addition to the Library, the Year 12 School Captains decided to collaborate with the School Finance Department and Property Services to put a plan into action. A group of 25 Year 12s took it upon themselves to conduct some Saturday morning garden work at School, with a new water fountain then being installed as a gesture of thanks!

Year 12 Students Depart for Retreat/Camp
June 7, 2018The Year 12’s left for their retreat yesterday.
Year 12 retreats are often reported as being one of the most memorable and meaningful experiences of a student’s school life. The activities are designed to help prepare these 17 and 18 year-old students to confidently take the final steps to move from childhood to adulthood and being a responsible, well-adjusted member of society.
Year 12 retreats are particularly special because they are often one of the last times students will relax and renew together as a year group. They are facing the prospect of life beyond school, beyond teachers and beyond the school support network that has nurtured them for up to 13 years. These retreats can be very emotional and often give students the opportunity to openly share their feelings, hopes, memories and uncertainties.
“WHAT IS A SCHOOL RETREAT?
A retreat is . . .
- A pause from the “business” of everyday life
- An opportunity to strengthen friendships
- A time for quiet prayer and reflection in a peaceful atmosphere
- An opportunity to build and strengthen friendships and promote understanding between students and teachers
- A fun ‘time-out’ for recreation, games, songs, learning and play
We hope they have a wonderful time and an experience to remember!
