Sporting Success

We are excited to share a number of exceptional student sporting achievements with our community over the coming days. Starting with swimming,  Year 12 student Lauren Gastevich has just been selected to represent Australia at the 2018 Oceana Championships in Papua New Guinea!

Rachael Edwards, Year 12, recently finished third place at the School Sport Triathlon Nationals, while her sister Crystal, Year 9, won medals in several of her races at the Australian Age Swimming Championships.

Fast Lane

Year 11 and 12 Automotive Engineering and Technology students saw all the behind-the-scenes action at Barbagello Raceway last week at the WA leg of the Supercars, courtesy of the Western Australian Sporting Car Club. Students saw how the cars are set up and how much time is involved in getting everything right.

Swanky Jackets

There’s a sense of pride among our 2018 Year 12 students as they don their Leaver’s Jackets around School. Students  have now received the coveted and well-earned symbol that marks the last year of their studies.

Maritime Museum Excursion

April 9, 2018

The Year 12 Marine Students from spent the morning at the Maritime Museum in Fremantle. They had the opportunity to see the artefacts and remains recovered from the wreck site of the Batavia  which many of them had the chance to dive on at the Abrolhos Islands last year!

In the afternoon they visited IFAP to see first hand the intense training you need to complete before working in the Maritime Industry. Students were climbing in life rafts, saw helicopters fall into the pool, learnt how to extinguish fires and escape from burning buildings!

Poetic Problem Solving

Here’s an activity putting a new spin on a good old-fashioned Literature class!

Year 12 ATAR Literature students recently created a physical mind map to deepen their understanding of Seamus Heaney’s poetry and identify key poems in his body of work. The activity got students up out of their seats and collaborating to solve problems using higher-order thinking skills.

Leadership Breakfast

On Tuesday morning, Duncraig School and House Captains were invited to the first of what will be a series of Leadership breakfasts over 2018. FIRST Robotics South Pacific Championships

More than 40 teams fronted up for the FIRST Robotics South Pacific Championships in Sydney recently, with Year 12 student Cale Davies at the heart of the action. Cale was part of Curtin University’s team that took out the title and are now headed for the World Championships in Houston, Texas.

Double Trouble

March 22, 2018

Year 12 PE Studies students paired up to compete in the School Sports WA Badminton competition last Friday. Participating as part of their Practical Performance assessment, students were able to put their skills to the test in a series of round robin games against local schools. Congratulations to Caitlyn Ribbons and Gabby Bechard who made it through to the quarter finals!
