Notice for Parents Year 7 & 8

November 7, 2019

Dear Yr 7 and 8 Parents

Earlier in the year your child may have opened a Pinterest account using their school email address. Pinterest is an excellent visual learning tool for students to document their research. Some of your children may have received some diet and body image advertising emails through their school email. You may wish to check with your child to see if they received any of these emails and talk to them about the content.

We have given time and instruction to the students in the classes affected to delete these accounts. Therefore no further emails should be coming through the school email system. Protocols for using such online learning tools are now in place. Here is a link where you can find further information about the protocols and how you can make using this learning tool as private and secure as possible.

POETRY IN ACTION

November 6, 2019

The theatre group Poetry In Action recently visited the Duncraig campus to present ‘Words of War’ to our Year 11 ATAR English and ATAR Literature students. The presentation focused on the works of Wilfred Owen, a WWI poet, and explored the potential and power of words to capture the inhumanity of war. Not only was the performance entertaining, it will help students in preparing for their Semester 2 exams.

FESTIVAL FUN

November 4, 2019

Year 7 Indonesian students recently travelled to Elizabeth Quay to attend the Festival Indonesia accompanied by none other than Mrs Donella Beare and Mrs Darnelle Pretorius! The group relished the opportunity to take part in creative workshops including batik painting, storytelling, singing and dancing. What a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Indonesian culture!

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

October 31, 2019

A group of Year 11 girls from Carramar and Duncraig spent their school holidays making a difference at Bethany Home in Malaysia. Students helped the children with their aerobics, motor skills, physical education and arts and crafts, while also taking the time to create a beautiful Peter Pan mural. The Tour no doubt forged close friendships and created memories the girls will never forget.

OUT OF THIS WORLD

October 30, 2019

Wow… check out what our Space Camp USA students have been up to over the last few weeks! Year 9s Aaron Popich (Carramar), Natasha Anderson and Ben Flanagan (Duncraig) travelled with Mr Charles Biddle visiting Northrop Grummin, the California Science Centre, Disneyland and more to learn all about space exploration and mission control. They were also the first school group to ever visit Richard Branson’s spaceflight company, Virgin Galactic.

PHYSICS OF SOUND

Mr Stefan Walter was a guest speaker in Mrs Aldous Year 8 Science class recently, demonstrating the Physics of Sound with his electric guitar, carrot clarinet or ‘Clarot’ and real clarinet.
