City of Joondalup’s Centenary of Armistice Day Art Program
October 30, 2018THIS year’s Remembrance Day marks the centenary of Armistice – when the First World War came to an end on November 11, 1918.
The City of Joondalup has been working with local artists and school students to commemorate this significant historical occasion.
Artists Daniela Dlugocz, Denise Brown and Paula Hart recently held a series of workshops with students from local schools to produce a series of canvases that depict themes from World War 1 and Remembrance Day including the iconic poppy fields.
The schools involved were Warwick Senior High and St Stephen’s Schools, Kinross College and Craigie Heights, Bambara and St Luke’s Catholic primary schools.
Students and parents are invited to attend the ceremony on 11 November where there will be a free sausage sizzle for all attendees after the service.

WA Marine Debris Project
October 26, 2018Students from C2 Homeroom this week took part in the Tangaroa Blue Foundation’s WA Marine Debris Project. Students cleaned up a 600m stretch of beach adjacent to Whitfords Nodes, even finding a shovel! After collecting and sorting the waste, a list of collected items was uploaded to the AMDI database to assist with reducing waste at the source. Students learnt that marine debris isn’t only unsightly, it harms marine wildlife and can even impact human health if we consume fish that have ingested plastic.

October 25, 2018Market Day
October 25, 2018The end of term three saw the participation of the Year 8 students at the Year 5 Market Day. Students in Year 8 were studying the idea of sustainability which tied in perfectly with the Year 5 Market Day. There was even a little time for Year 8 students to reminisce about their time in the Primary School Playground. The purpose of this day was to sell goods that had been recycled from existing products. The creativity of the Year 5 students was extortionary and we look forward to seeing their products next year.
A whooping $1014 was raised.
