Year 8 TIMSS

October 11, 2018

A number of Year 8 classes have been selected to take part in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS).  TIMSS is an important educational research project investigating student achievement in mathematics and science.  More than 60 countries, including Australia, are participating in this study.  TIMMS is used to keep us informed about how students in Australia are performing in comparison to their peers in other countries and to compare programs of study and teaching practices.  The school will be able to obtain current national and international information which will help improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and science in our country.

Selected students will do an assessment in Mathematics and Science and complete a questionnaire about their experiences at home and school.   There is no need for students to study specifically for the assessment as it will not affect individual students’ grades or progress in school. The students who are involved have been given an information brochure by their Mathematics teacher this week. Parents are welcome to call the school if they have any questions at all.

All data will be kept strictly confidential and no individual student or school will be identified in published data or reports.

END OF AN ERA FOR SPORTING SISTERS

October 10, 2018
2018 has marked another massive year for the Edwards sisters Rachael (Year 12) and Crystal (Year 9), who have continued to make exceptional strides in swimming, cross-country and triathlon competitions across the nation. Though the sisters will no longer be navigating school sport as a pair following Rachael’s recent graduation, it hasn’t stopped their outstanding sporting results from rolling through.

Student vs. Staff

September 21, 2018

Expectation was high. Pride on the line.

Both memorable matches, as much remembered by the contest as by the spirit in which the game was played. Once again the Year 12’s triumphed over staff.

There is always next year….

Success All Round

September 18, 2018

A great effort from our Year 9s and 10s who put their skills to the test at the Volleyball Schools Cup last Friday! The students did us proud with the Year 10s successfully making it through to the finals and the Year 9s placing third overall.

Awesome job!

NAPLAN Results

September 17, 2018

Year 7 and 9 NAPLAN individual reports and the explanatory brochure will be given to students in Homeroom on Wednesday 19 September. While the test represents a single snapshot on a specific day, it does provide useful information about both the group of students and about individual students.

The explanatory brochure is useful and further information can be accessed here: http://www.nap.edu.au/docs/default-source/default-document-library/naplan-2018-information-brochure-for-parents-and-carers.pdf?sfvrsn=2. This brochure provides background information about the Individual Student Reports: https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/assessment/testing/naplan/parents/results-reporting.

It is important for students to achieve specific levels in Year 9 NAPLAN if they are to avoid having to sit the Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) required for Year 12 WACE Graduation. Information on these requirements is regularly presented at Information Evenings and in Education Plus classes, and can also be found here: https://senior-secondary.scsa.wa.edu.au/assessment/olna/students-parents-carers.
