RAC bstreetsmart Event

April 6, 2018

Yesterday Year 10 students went on an excursion to Perth Arena for the RAC bstreetsmart event.

RAC has been hosting bstreetsmart in Western Australia since 2012, and in this time almost 40,000 secondary school students have attended.

RAC bstreetsmart features a crash scene re-enactment attended by the emergency services, just as it would occur at a real crash site. The students also have the opportunity to listen to speakers who have been directly impacted by road trauma and talk with emergency services personnel.

The event was organised by Cathy Trethowen, Vet/Careers/VET Liaison Officer.

“Impeccably organised and executed, being a staff member on this excursion was a breeze and I was really proud of the tens for the way they behaved and represented the school.” – Bennet Andrews, Deputy Head of Secondary (Care).

Photos include a photo of students with  Byron Gallyer alumni Class of 2015 who was a Red Frog volunteer at the event.

Heart in their hands!

April 5, 2018

Today we held a heart in our hands and pulled on the heart strings during a heart dissection. Students were able to relate the real structure to our classwork. Good job Y8s.

Poetic Problem Solving

April 5, 2018

Here’s an activity putting a new spin on a good old-fashioned Literature class!

Year 12 ATAR Literature students recently created a physical mind map to deepen their understanding of Seamus Heaney’s poetry and identify key poems in his body of work. The activity got students up out of their seats and collaborating to solve problems using higher-order thinking skills.

Year 7 Electoral Education Centre Excursion

April 4, 2018

On Wednesday 4th April, Mr Hummerston’s Year 7 HASS class journeyed their way to the Electoral Education Centre near Parliament House to learn about how Australians vote. Whilst there, they learnt lots of new information, showcased their knowledge learnt from class and took place in mock elections. The students seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves and we hope to one day see their name on a ballot paper!

Shining CAS Stars!

April 4, 2018

Our CAS Sport stars had a jam-packed lineup of grand finals last week, with the Year 9 Boys Basketball team taking out the top spot in their match! The Junior Girls Touch Rugby and the Year 9 and Senior Girls Basketball teams may not have come away with the win, but they put up a stellar fight in some very close-scoring matches. These results place St Stephen’s in third place overall in Summer CAS, which is a great start to the year.

Super effort and teamwork everyone!
