One week to go

This time next week we will be meeting at the airport to begin our amazing adventure to Sth Africa!  Hopefully you took some time to organise you clothes and items so that you know how much your bag weighs – you don’t want to be pulling things out of your bag at the airport because it is too heavy! The weather in Cape Town has been mild with temps mostly in the low to mid 20’s.

Use the week to let people know that the time has come and if they haven’t subscribed to or bookmarked the blog page that this will be where they can see what we get up to.  They will be able to see where all of their support for you over the last year is being put into action as we update the blog daily.

Tour clothing has arrived and you will be given your shirts and hoody in the next couple of days.  You will be able to wear it to school later on this week to promote the tour.  Your teachers will let you know when this will be happening.

If you have any fundraising money that still needs to be deposited please do that as soon as possible so that we can have the money transferred to our travel cards.

I have been busy touching base with all of our partners over the last week and they are very excited to meet us – especially the young children who have met students from previous tours.

Enjoy you week leading into our departure and if you have any questions, as always, speak to one of the teachers.

Nine days to go!

Can you believe it?  We have nine days to go!  If you haven’t already started, it’s time to begin organising yourself.  Here are some things to help you.

Have you:

  • deposited all of your fundraising money?
  • sent in your immunisation declaration?
  • returned you Parental Consent affidavit?
  • organised a bank debit card to take with you?
  • started looking at your personal packing?  How much will this weigh?
  • Do you need power?  Have you got a power adaptor? Officeworks SA Adaptor

Here’s something to get you in the mood!

Duncraig Meeting Lunchtime Thursday 28th in A5

Hello Duncraig Students,

Please meet Miss Everett and myself in A5 this Thursday the 28th at lunchtime for a meeting regarding the tour.

Also, could you please bring the completed South African Entry Consent Letter if you haven’t already done so.

Kind regards,

Mr Merrifield

Packing Night/Entry Consent Form

You know that it is getting close when its time to do this!

This Friday night is the Packing night.

We will start after school and hopefully be finished by 8pm for pick up. At the end of the evening students will be taking their filled bag home with them.

You will need to bring:

  • your duffle bag (have your name written on the bag so we can return it to you at the end of the trip)
  • all of the donations that you have collected (boots, runners, uniform kits)
  • $5 for dinner

Carramar students will be collected at the end of the school day from the Makaria car park and transported to Duncraig.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to be there, however I am sure that you will get great enthusiasm in readiness for the trip from this activity.

South Africa Entry Requirements

I have been speaking with the South Africa Embassy this week and they have clarified the changes to their “Entry Requirements”.  They have recently softened the requirements and documents that have been needed to previously be presented at the border for school groups.  They have advised that the attached letter will be of assistance in getting through Customs more efficiently.  The letter has the generic tour information filled in and will just require parents to sign the relevant sections.  There is no need for this to be certified, nor will you need to submit any further documents such as passports etc as we already have them.  If we could have them returned on Friday when students are being picked up that would be much appreciated.

SA Entry_Consent Letter

Have a great evening on Friday – I will look forward to hearing about it from Ms Everett and Mr Merrifield.

Bunnings Training Day

I hope that you are ready to get your DIY on!!  I have spoken to Bunnings today and they have organised a great day of learning for us.

If you could please meet at Joondalup Bunnings ready for a 9am start. I will be there from 8.30 if you need to be dropped off early. Along with the training Bunnings will be providing morning tea and lunch (make your own roll).

We will be learning how to use power tools, painting, brick laying and rendering.

Please wear your sports uniform and bring your safety boots if you have them. We will be finished approx 3pm for pick up. If you are someone who is always hungry it might be worth bringing some extra snacks as well.

See you you in the morning!
