Not long now…

Hello Everyone,

We would all like to say a massive well done to all of the students who have been raising money over the holidays. There are students who have already reached their $750 target (with quite a few going well beyond this), however, do not stop there… every dollar we raise will further the projects we can commit to in South Africa!

The South Africa Tour is only just around the corner so it is important that we get on top of the following points:

  1. Please ensure you return a copy of your passport to either Miss Everett, Mr Merrifield or Mr Batten before the end of Week 1. This is of the upmost importance.
  2. If your son/daughter’s medical information has changed recently, could you please update this via the portal on the school website.
  3. Please transfer any money you raised over the holidays via the link, or alternatively, hand the money directly to Ms Everett, Mr Merrifield or Mr Batten and we can hand into accounts on your behalf. The sooner we are able to finalise the amount we have raised, the longer the lead time we have to plan the projects that we can undertake whilst in South Africa.
  4. Please ensure you have (or have purchased) a duffle bag for packing the donations (boots/shoes/clothes) we are taking over.
  5. We highly recommend wearing steel cap boots while we are working at Kiddos Shelter in Port Elizabeth and JJ Haven. Kmart and Big W stock inexpensive pairs.
  6. The “Boot Drive” begins this term, so please have a look at the list below and keep an ear out for anyone that might be looking to donate to the trip. We will be promoting the details on the school’s social media platforms and newsletter. We welcome any ‘sharing’ of this information to spread awareness of the specific items we are looking to take:
  • Priority items included black school shoes of any size, school bags and pencil cases.
  • Uniforms, particularly grey trousers and white polos.
  • Non-liquid toiletries including toothbrushes, sanitary pads, towels and face cloths (flannels).
  • Children’s clothing – particularly warm items.
  • Sports shoes, soccer boots (boys and girls), soccer kits, soccer balls/netballs/rugby balls (deflated)

Finally, some upcoming events for your calendar:

  • February 26thMindarie Bunnings training day. Students are to make their way to and from the venue, arriving at 8.30am and departing at 3pm. Morning tea will be provided, however, there is limited accommodation for dietary requirements by the venue. Students are asked to bring their own lunch/water bottle. Please wear your sports uniform. This is a great opportunity to wear in your steel cap boots.
  • March 18thWA AIDS Council presentation to students (4-5pm) and final parent’s information evening (5.30-6.30pm) in Cousins Hall, Duncraig campus.
  • March 27thPacking Night. Students will meet at the GPLC at the Duncraig campus for the packing night from 4-8pm. Students will be required to bring a duffle bag each (with their name on it) and $5 for dinner.

If you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Ms Everett, Mr Merrifield & Mr Batten

Movie & Cultural Immersion

Hello Students and Parents,

Our next get together is sure to be a great night – the Invictus and cultural immersion night! This will be held on Monday the 25th of November at the Carramar campus running from 4pm – 8pm. We will hopefully return to the Duncraig campus at approximately 8.30pm, however, students can text you when we’re on our way. We will be taking the Duncraig students by mini-bus to Carramar and will return to the Duncraig campus at approximately 8.30pm where parents can pick their children up. If you would rather pick them up from Carramar then please let us know in advance for transport booking purposes. Students can wear the sports uniform on this day.

The evening will begin with a look at the different languages of South Africa and in particular Afrikaans and Xhosa where we will learn a few common phrases to help us when we are there.
This will be followed by some pizza (so please bring $5 and any snacks) before we settle in to watch the movie Invictus which is set during the time that apartheid was being dismantled. The fabulous Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon play the roles of Nelson Mandela and Francois Pienaar focusing on their critical interaction in the healing process of the South African nation.

Keep going with your fundraising activities. We are hearing some great stories and can’t wait to hear you share your experiences on this night.

If there are any questions then please do not hesitate to contact one of us.

Kind regards,

Mr Merrifield

African Drumming Success

Hello All,

A massive congratulations to all the students, parents and staff who were involved with organising and running the African Drumming night last Friday. We think it was a great success and thank all of you for helping support the students’ fundraising efforts.

If you could now please start bringing in your money to either Miss Everett, Mr Batten or myself or transfer it via the fundraising link that would be great – we would like to finalise the fundraising amounts before we start our car wash fundraiser later this term. If you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Here are a few photos from the night.

African Drumming Night

Hello Everyone,

I hope you’re all looking forward to the wonderful drumming experience that ‘Akwaaba’ will be  providing us with this Friday. The event runs from 6.30pm to approximately 7.30pm and then the students will need to assist with packing up at the end of the night – we will hopefully have this finished in 30-45 minutes.

I would also like to remind those preparing salads for the night to please ensure there are no nuts in the salad.

Below is a link of ‘Akwaaba’ in action:

South Africa Fundraising Fund link

Dear Parents,

The finance department at St Stephen’s have managed to establish a link where you can make fundraising payments to for the 2020 South Africa tour – the link is:

South Africa Fundraising 2020

If you would like to make a deposit of any money that your son/daughter has raised then you can do it via the above link. You MUST ensure you state your son/daughter’s name in the box provided as well as a reference:

ie. Josh Brown SAF Fund

If not, the finance department will not know who to allocate funds to as it is a generic link and not specific to individual students.

Alternatively, students can bring in any money raised and hand it to Miss Everett, Mr Batten or myself and we will pass it onto the finance department

If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact one of us.

Kind regards,

Adam Merrifield
