Social Co-ordinator & new guidelines

We have been reviewing the role of the parent reps across the primary school and have made a few alterations to the role.  Part of the alteration is the name, which is now called the Social Coordinator.  The new guidelines will be sent out shortly.  Thank you to those who have already put yourself forward to take on this role for 2024.  There are still a few gaps, so if anyone would like to be a Social Coordinator, please let us know.

Online Safety Parent Information Morning

2024 Inter House Swimming Carnival – Tuesday 5 March – Week 6 – all students in year 3 to 6 participate

Please click on the two links below to find out about the upcoming swimming carnival. The first link contains information that hopefully answers all questions families may have regarding the event. The second link is the online nomination form that allows students to select the races that they wish to be in. I would appreciate nomination completed by Friday 9 February as this will give me adequate time to create the program and get organised. I highly recommend that you read the first link carefully before submitting the nomination form.

Did you know that it’s illegal to park on the verge*?

It surprised us too, but we’ve done some research recently after a number of complaints from local residents regarding vehicles parked on verges during school pick up and drop off times. Unfortunately, a number of residents have reported damage to their property due to parking by members of our School community. The City have let us know that they will be increasing their parking patrols during peak times so please work with us to restore our relationship with our neighbours and ensure you do not receive a parking infringement. We understand that pick up and drop off times can be stressful for everyone concerned, so please consider coming a little later for pick up or slightly earlier for drop off to avoid the busiest times. Thanks for your support in making ours a safe environment for our whole community.

* Clause 42(2) of the City of Joondalup Parking Local Law 1998. This law prevents motorists from parking on a road verge without the adjoining property occupant’s consent.

LEARN MORE ABOUT PASTORAL CARE AT OUR SCHOOL

In 2024, we are introducing a series of parent seminars entitled “Hot Topics” and our first sessions are about our Six Pillars of Care where we will share our approach to contemporary K-12 pastoral care. There are sessions at both Carramar and Duncraig. Tickets are free but booking is essential. https://events.humanitix.com/tours/pht1-2024

St Stephen’s Primary – World’s Greatest Shave 2024

There are many worthwhile causes to support throughout the year and this is one that I would like to draw attention to. In 2014, my then three year old daughter was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Thanks to a privileged medical system and God’s mercy, my daughter is now fit and well. She is in her sixth year since treatment finished and her recovery has been very positive.

Throughout that treatment period and even beyond, the support for families dealing with blood cancers has been amazing. Fundraising initiatives like the Greatest Shave helped our family through a difficult time of our lives. We are extremely grateful to all of the selfless people who have generously given to this cause.

To further the cause, I would like to support the World’s Greatest Shave at St Stephen’s School. For those interested in supporting this fundraising effort, these are the details…

  1. Our Greatest Shave Day will be held on Friday 22nd March
  2. Participating on the day can be done in the following ways
  1. Register online with parent permission (parents please email me at daniel.parker@ststephens.w.aedu.au to express consent), fundraise and then have hair shaved or cut (you must be registered and have sent in parental permission and fundraised to do the shave or cut)(some students like to participate by cutting off their pony tail)
  2. Don’t register online, but still colour your hair at home or wear a wig and then bring a donation on the day
  1. Students/staff/parents can support by giving online or registering as a participant at the link below

https://secure.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/registrant/TeamFundraisingPage.aspx?TeamID=144401

*on that page in little text it says “sign up and join our team” – click on that to join.

I am fully aware that there are many worthwhile causes to support, so please do not feel any obligation to give to this fundraising, but of course we welcome it if you are willing and able.
