SENSATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK
August 16, 2019MODERN SCIENCE
August 7, 2019Year 12 ATAR Biology students recently visited UWA to discover the application of nanotechnology in modern day science and to investigate forensic anthropology. Students learned about how to make cancer self-destruct by inserting Nano gold into cancer cells and how fossils can be used to confirm the age, gender and race of people. Wow!
GLOWING RESULTS
June 25, 2019Teaming up across our campuses, Year 12 ATAR Biology students from Carramar and Duncraig recently worked to make transgenic organisms. Taking the GFP gene from jellyfish and inserting it into bacterium, results show that when the gene is expressed it glows! Students then participated in a debate discussing the ethics behind genetically modified organisms and the future impact the science will have on society.
Static Electricity
May 6, 2019Ladies and Gentlemen, charge your engines!
The Year 9s were busy racing empty soft drink cans using static electricity this afternoon as they learnt about induced charges.

March 6, 2019Today had David Reid who is a paramedic and lecturer at ECU visit our lesson. We talked about the respiratory and circulatory system and got to use his ECG machine to measure our heart rate, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the body. Students talked to David about his fascinating career as a paramedic and learnt so much from his experiences.
I had lots of fun too as David has a great sense of humour.

February 21, 2019Year 8 Earth Science Incursion
February 21, 2019Recently the Year 8 Science students have been learning about rocks and the rock cycle. As part of these studies, we had a visit from Earth Science Western Australia (ESWA) on Wednesday the 20th of February. The students took part in some hands-on activities and learned about how we identify rocks and why they are important. ESWA’s visit to our school was made possible by funding from their supporters and we would like to thank them for this opportunity for our students.
