ASELL Workshop

May 17, 2017

Last week St Stephen’s School hosted a workshop for the ASELL Project (Advancing Science and Engineering through Laboratory Learning) which is part of a collaboration between several universities across Australia, including Curtin University in Perth. The project aims to enhance teaching in the laboratory by carrying out and evaluating experiments that have been devised by host school teachers.

The ASELL workshops are aimed at increasing teacher confidence and reflection when planning and presenting experiments/investigations to students.

Our Science staff and some students were taken through a process of reflection and improvement using student feedback. It was an excellent opportunity for staff to gain further skills and feedback from students and leading academics with an aim for continual improvement in the Science teaching program.

Drift Installation Art Award

May 9, 2017

Art technician Claire Davenhall won the Major Sculpture Prize last weekend at the Drift Installation Awards.

Claire had one piece featured ‘Frogmosis’ and and theme was ‘Osmosis’

Artists Statement:

“Frogmosis tells the story of Darwin’s’ Theory of Evolution, when creatures crawled out of the water and onto the land. Its slippery smooth skin ripples across the water, as it moves through the semi-permeable Layer and onto Australian Land. Glowing shades of green and gold it transforms to a land based creature sharing its beauty to all who can see her.”

The Drift Installation Art Award features installation and sculptural works by contemporary West Australian artists, who have responded to the theme ‘Home’ with environmental, philosophical and spiritual perspectives that relate to our sense of place, connection to the land and our individual and collective identity.

Well done and congratulations!
