Nominations now open for the 2021 Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards

October 2, 2020

This year has already been one of the most challenging years for teachers and students in our lifetimes. Yet throughout all of the ups and downs and unexpected moments, many teachers have continued to shine. They’ve selflessly given their time and remained committed to creating a future for the next generation.

That’s why we’re looking to recognise 12 more outstanding teachers and school leaders who’ve delivered transformative and measurable outcomes for their students.

The chosen 12 will each receive a $45,000 Teaching Fellowship, which includes $10,000 to support their professional development, $25,000 for a school project to improve outcomes for their students and a group visit to a high-performing education system.

If you know an outstanding educator, nominate them now. The value of their work inspires for a lifetime, but the chance to recognise and reward them starts today. Applications close on 16 October 2020.

Philosothon 2020

September 23, 2020

The Philosothon was held at UWA Tuesday evening.  Below is the team that competed on behalf of Duncraig.

Kari Whitelock

Nathan Kim

Thomas McIntyre

Sophie Frazer

Jethro Mack

Mitchell Jones

Riley Sobolewski

Coach/GAT teacher:  Catherine Riddle

The judges this year commented that the standard of the competition was the highest they had seen.  There was even a delay as the judges debated themselves on the  final awarding of marks.  Our students competed really well and enjoyed the evening.

A Philosothon is concerned with big questions, questions at the edge of science and reason. Each school selects between 5-8 students to represent the school and together they explore philosophical and ethical issues orally.

Year 11 River Cruise

September 22, 2020

Dear Year 11 Students, Parents and Guardians

Last night we had a fantastic evening aboard the MV James Stirling for the annual Year 11 River Cruise. Students and staff came dressed to the theme of TV Shows and Movies and there were some amazing ensembles. Most notably: Jethro Mack the Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Seb Oats as The Joker and the incredibly well-attired Star Wars cast. There was also Total Drama Island, the Power Puff Girls, Mario and Luigi, the Mumma Mia Trio, Pirates of the Caribbean and Marty from Back to the Future.

The crew of the MV James Stirling wish to pass on their sincere appreciation to our students for their outstanding behaviour both throughout the cruise and especially at the end of the evening when our students cleaned up their own tables. They also commented on how impressed they were with the costumes and the way our students interacted with one another. The community spirit of St Stephen’s School, the way we care for one another, was shining brightly last night. You were excellent ambassadors for our school.

Thank you to Dr Criddle, Mr Gaby, Mr Knight, Mr Jakeway, Miss Ross, Miss Ntoumenopoulos and Mr Herewini for supervising. Special thank you to Mrs Aldous for being our Chief Photographer and Mrs Kirby for being our Medic for the evening. Thank you also to Tara Eshragi, Georgia La Motte, Emma Hutson and your band of helpers for coming early to decorate the decks

Congratulations, Year 11s on an awesome evening!
