Special Edition (Year 3 – 6 families only) – Aladdin T-shirt Order

Dear Cast and Parents/Guardians

Due to overwhelming demand, we have decided to place one final order for our Aladdin Jr. cast and crew t-shirts.

Please note, whilst we will make every effort to get your t-shirt as soon as possible, we cannot guarantee it will arrive before the season of Aladdin Jr. ends. It will, of course, make a lovely souvenir keepsake all the same.

CLICK HERE TO ORDER YOUR ALADDIN JR. T-SHIRT

Orders will close at 10.00am on Friday August 27.

Students who have already ordered t-shirts will be receiving them this Friday 27 August and will be allowed to wear them for the next two weeks (Monday 30 August to Friday 10 September), in Lieu of their uniform t-shirt.

Kind regards

Term 3 Buddy Time

Dear Parents

The focus of our Buddy Time this term links in with Book Week. As such, we would like our buddies to spend time reading together. Our first buddy session of the term will be on Wednesday afternoon and to celebrate book week we would request that each student brings in a book to share with their buddy.

They could bring in their favourite picture book, their favourite chapter book or perhaps the book that they are using for their dress up character for the book parade which is happening this Thursday at 9.00am. Please make sure that the book is clearly labelled with their name.

Our ‘big’ buddies will spend some time reading to their ‘little’ buddies and then chat about their favourite books.

Reading is so important and such a wonderful thing to share with others.

Kind regards

Carrey-Ann Dicks
Teacher – Year 2/Curriculum Coordinator

Term 3, Week 2

Dear Parents and Carers

You would be aware that, as a School, we have committed to becoming more culturally aware regarding indigenous culture and history and are being quite strategic over the coming months as to how we address this in our 2022 – 2024 Strategic Plan. As Sharon Davis, an aboriginal woman from both Bardi and Kija peoples of the Kimberley, comments:

“With many of today’s youth growing up to be tomorrow’s health workers, politicians, law makers, educators and policy architects, a racially literate and culturally responsive education is crucial for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous children”.

As part of this, we put a special focus on our NAIDOC Week celebrations and activities last week and enjoyed many events and learning opportunities which were communicated to each other in our assembly on Friday. Commencing with a P – 12 ‘Welcome to Country’ delivered by Maitland Hill, an aboriginal elder with whom the School has developed a partnership with, over the next four days the students at the various year levels learnt about such things as:

  • The 6 Noongar seasons
  • The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags
  • Indigenous symbols
  • Tapping sticks
  • Stories from the Dreamtime
  • Cooking with native herbs
  • Famous people like artist Albert Namatjira, musician Geoffrey Gurrumul and athlete Cathy Freeman

Thank you to all staff for their enthusiasm and commitment to the week and the plans for the future.

God bless

Term 3, Week 1

Welcome to Term 3!

We hope you’ve had a lovely break, filled with special times with family and friends. It’s been wonderful to welcome back our students this morning and we would like to extend a special warm welcome to all our new families this term. What an exciting term ahead! Swimming lessons, Athletics Carnival, Book Week, Father’s Day celebrations, Aladdin, …… just to name a few!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the excellent turn out at our parent-teacher interviews yesterday. Like you, we have the best interest of every child at heart and we truly value your support.  Working in partnership with our families is paramount for us. If you have any concerns or would like to discuss anything with us, please remember that Mr Roberts and I are always available if you would like to make an appointment.

Whilst students enjoyed a third week of holidays last week, staff were back at work taking part in a variety of professional development activities throughout the week. One of our focus has been to further develop our understanding of the aboriginal culture and its people. By learning from the long history and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, we enrich our own connection to the land and the world in which we live. To this effect, our school is celebrating NAIDOC Week this week. We started the week with a special Welcome to Country Ceremony this morning led by Mr Maitland Hill, aboriginal artist, and director of Kaarak Dreaming. Maitland went on to spend some time with our High School students to raise their cultural awareness whilst our Primary teachers led several activities within their classroom to help our students broaden their understanding of the aboriginal culture. Several activities will be taking part throughout the week, and we encourage you to discuss these with your children.

We wish you a wonderful term and look forward to seeing all our students shine and achieve their personal goals in Term 3.

Yours truly

Mr Roberts and Madame Pilote

You will find the lost property located to the left of the Primary Forum entrance, between the Kindy and the Reception Office.

Children’s University (CU) Australasia

This is the last term to log your hours for the 2021 graduation.  We already have three students who have qualified to graduate at the end of the year!  I am excited to see you in your gowns.  Remember you need at least 30 hours to be logged and stamped in your passports – please don’t leave it all to the last minute as I would hate for you to miss out as the demand for stamping increases as the term continues.

Next passport stamping session is this Thursday, 29 July, in the library at lunch time.  If you were in any after school clubs or the Arts and Academic Festival, some of the Arts events can be included towards your graduation.  So come and see if you are one of them.

If you have already got your 30 hours, you can still continue to accrue hours and you may end up graduating with silver instead of bronze, or it will be easier to graduate next year with these additional hours already on your passport.  This is also true for people who do not accrue the 30 hours for this years graduation, your hours are not lost but carried over to next year.  For one idea of what you can do, I have included the July challenge set by CU below.

Not all Olympic events have been sports-related! Did you know that poetry was included in the Olympics between 1912 and 1948? CU challenges you to put forward your favourite activity for inclusion in the Olympics of the future! Choose an event or activity you would like to see included and create a poster to persuade others to support your bid. Once completed take evidence of your work to your in-school Coordinator, or upload to the Portal to earn up to two hours in your Passport to Learning.
