Term 2, Week 8

OSHClub

Here at Junior Adventures Group, we believe that every child deserves a chance. That’s why we are so proud to partner with The Smith Family. We are determined to help create a better future for disadvantaged children in Australia and we need your help!

St Stephen’s OSHClub children and educators have discussed ways we can help raise funds for The Smith Family and have decided to run a Dream Run Raffle and stall. Raffle tickets are available for $2 each or 3 for $5 before and after school at our OSHClub transportable near the large oval. You can view the prizes to be won when purchasing your ticket(s).

We would like to invite all families to visit our stall after school on Friday 23 of June outside the school canteen with our raffle to be drawn by Madame Pilote at 4:30pm. The stall will have a variety of cakes, popcorn, playdough, cups of homemade lemonade available and other items for sale. Prices vary from 50c to $2. We look forward to seeing you there!

In the meantime, please feel free to visit our Smith Family fundraising page https://events.thesmithfamily.com.au/fundraisers/ststephensoshclub

All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will receive a tax receipt via email straight away.

Sadly, 1 in 6 Australian children are living in disadvantage and through no fault of their own, don’t have access to the learning essentials they need to succeed at school. By donating to our fundraising page today and participating in our raffle and stall, you can help these children to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams with Junior Adventures Group matching all donations, dollar for dollar, up to $50,000.

Thank you so much for your support.

Warm Regards

St Stephens OSHClub

Arts & Academic Festival 2023 – Schedule

St Stephen’s School Primary School Rock Band

It is with great excitement that the music department announces the birth of the St Stephen’s School Primary School Rock Band. The band will be comprised of students in years 4 to 6 who will rehearse one morning per week before school with the view to perform at school events, assemblies and concerts. This will be a fun opportunity to put all those hours of instrumental (and vocal) practice to good use and to learn the art of making music with others! This is a trial and it will run over Semester 2, with continuance in 2024 to be determined during Term 4.

To be part of this exciting trial, students will need to:

CURRENTLY be taking (and will continue to take) individual lessons on their instrument. These individual lessons may be taken with either an external or internal tutor and proof of this will be required.

  1. Attend an audition in which they will need to play a song/piece of their choosing that is at least 30 seconds long. This should demonstrate the level of the performer as accurately as possible. (Don’t stress too much! It’s not a test!)

We are looking for musicians who can play the following instruments:

  • Piano/keyboard
  • Drums
  • Guitar (acoustic or electric)
  • Bass Guitar
  • Vocals (singing)

We are currently fielding expressions of interest so that we can get everything running smoothly. If you are someone who plays an instrument (or sings) and you would like the chance to be part of our rock/pop band then please do one of the following by Wednesday 14 June:

  1. Send an email to gina.craven@ststephens.wa.edu.au with the following information:
  • Name
  • Year/Class
  • Instrument you play
  • How long you have been undertaking lessons with the instrument
  1. Collect a form from the Reception Office, complete and return to the Reception Office.

Disabled Parking

A friendly reminder that disabled parking bays are strictly dedicated for ACROD permit holders. Your cooperation in this matter is truly appreciated.

Parent Series – Cultivating Resilience

We invite you to attend the first lecture of our new Parent Series presented by Dr Mandie Shean – “Cultivating Resilience”.

“My experience has taught me to focus on the community around the child rather than the child. We spend so much time trying to fix the child when we really need to fix the toxic environment they are in and then I usually see them flourish.”

Dr Mandie Shean is a teacher and registered psychologist who has featured on The Project, the ABC, Channel 9, Triple J and Radio National. Dr Shean spent twenty years as a Primary School Teacher, three years as a School Psychologist and the past 10 years lecturing at Edith Cowan University whilst pursuing her research. In between, she has worked as a school chaplain and a children’s pastor. As a Consultant Psychologist, Dr Shean has been engaged by the Department of Education and Training, as well as the Catholic Education Office to implement and evaluate student programs dealing with mental health and wellness.

Dr Shean’s research has focused on increasing student wellbeing through the development of resilience and creating strong community bonds. Her lecture will provide practical tools for you to assist your child in overcoming stressful situations and challenges.
