Term 2 – Notices – Week 10

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of the support you have given to the school over this semester. It has been an especially challenging period of time across WA as a whole and it has been no different here at St Stephen’s School.

As we end this semester, we are also preparing our goodbye’s to two members of staff. Mrs Angela Tedesco, in Year 3 will be leaving us at the end of term and Mr Alex Righton will also be leaving in Term 3. We are sorry to see both of these teachers leave our community, but we wish them both very well in their future endeavours and are extremely grateful for all they have brought to our community this year. Both teachers will be present on Monday 25th July for the parent- teacher interviews, so you will be able to see them and wish them well then. Bookings for Reporting Day are now open, please see information below.

As sad as it is to say goodbye to staff, it also brings excitement as we welcome new staff to our school. Mr Mark Fitzpatrick will be joining us in Year 3, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience with him and we look forward to being able to announce the new Year 5 teacher in due course.

We would also like to thank our Year 6 House Captains for their wonderful service this semester. They have provided wonderful leadership this semester during a very difficult time. We will honour them on Friday afternoon at 2.20pm in our final assembly of the year as well as announcing the new Captains who will take over for Semester 2. Weather permitting, the assembly will be outside on the primary oval and we would like to encourage all members of the community to join us, if you can.

The ELC students have been working hard on their swimming this week. They have done a great job at being organised and changing quickly. Well done everyone!  Can we kindly ask parents that if your child is not well enough to swim, you consider whether they are well enough to be at school. At this time of year, we need to ensure that we are limiting the spread of illness where possible and keeping our community safe.

As you go into a well-deserved 3 week break, we would like to wish you all well and pray for safe travels for any of you who are going way, especially those who may be traveling oversees for the first time in several years, perhaps to spend some time with family and loved ones.

Stay safe, and we look forward to an exciting Semester 2.

God bless.

Andrew Johnston & Hannah Lockwood-Jones

Interhouse Music Festival

The Interhouse Music Festival will be taking place in term 3 on Wednesday 24 August (Week 5).  The holidays might be a good time for students to think about what repertoire they might like to perform and if they would like to enter in duets and ensembles with siblings or friends. Entry forms will be available early next term through the blog, front office and music department.

Lost Property

A large amount of lost property has accumulated in the Primary reception over the course of terms 1 & 2.  If your child has lost any items this year, please come to collect them.

Any plastic containers left unclaimed by the end of term will be donated or recycled.

We recommend all uniforms, lunch boxes and other items brought to school be labelled, so they can easily be returned if misplaced.

Term 2 – Notices – Week 9

The end of Term is fast approaching but we still have two fun packed weeks of learning (and swimming for ELC students).

The 3’s and 4’s have now completed their swimming lessons. A huge congratulations to all the students on their organisation skills over the last few weeks. They really worked hard to ensure that they had all their items and changed quickly ready for their return to school. Thank you to the parents that helped with bus travel to and from the pool. Your support and help is greatly appreciated.

This week it is the younger students turn to head to the pool. There is lots of excitement not only about the swimming lessons but also about the bus journey to and from the pool.

We understand mornings are a busy time for families however please ensure you are signing your child/ren in at our administration areas if you are running late. It is a requirement that students who arrive late are signed in by a parent/guardian, students are unable to sign themselves in.

Please be aware of the following things that are happening at ELC and 3-6 this week.

ELC Piano Lessons 2022

Dear Parents,

Please be advised that piano lessons (offered to Year 1 and 2 only) in the ELC are fully booking with a significant waiting list.

We have therefore made the decision to close applications for ELC Piano for the rest of 2022.

New applications for 2023 will be taken in Term 4 and those students already on the waiting list will be placed first before new applications are processed.

Thank you for your understanding. If you would like a recommendation for an external piano tutor instead, please contact the Music Department on musicadmin@ststephens.wa.edu.au

Term 2 – Notices – Week 8

Good afternoon,

As we roll into week 8 of this term there is a sporty focus to the primary school at the moment.

Firstly, the Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed a successful start to their swimming lessons last week and we plan to continue the success and enthusiasm into this week.

In the ELC, our Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 students are growing with excitement and anticipation for their swimming lessons starting next week.

Some of our Year 5 and 6 students will also be involved in the Lightning Carnival tomorrow as they compete against other schools in a variety of sports including rugby, soccer, netball, hockey and AFL. We are excited to see them compete and enjoy themselves.

We were also excited to kick off the book fair today in the 3-6 Village. If you didn’t get a chance to come this morning, it will be open all week, before school and until 4pm after school.

Our Year 6 House Captain Speeches will be taking place this Thursday during period 4, 11-11.40. This may impact tutoring/music lessons for those who have applied for House Captain and giving a speech. If your child has applied, you may need to change the time of their lesson.

As we look towards the end of the term, please be reminded that reports will be released, through SEQTA on Friday 1st July  and the parent teacher interviews will be held on Monday 25th July. Further information on this will be shared on next Monday’s blog along with Term 3 club information.

Term 2 – Notices – Week 7

Dear Community,

We hope you had a lovely long weekend celebrating our wonderful state. It was a great opportunity to have a small break in the middle of the term, ready to finish well. The students have returned to school with lots of stories of things they have been up to on the weekend. It was wonderful that we had such great weather too.

Over the last few weeks, so many of our Primary staff have unfortunately been unwell and yet they have persevered to ensure that our students wouldn’t miss out on opportunities such as Cross-Country, our ANZAC Day Service, Mother’s Day celebrations, the return of our first Assembly and Worships.

We recently reviewed an article in the Harvard Health Publishing revealing that “In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships”. We are so grateful for the amazing staff at Duncraig ELC and 3-6! This semester, particularly this term, has probably been one of the most challenging times we have experienced. We would like to thank every member of our Primary Staff for their tireless efforts, hard work, support, resilience, collegiality, flexibility, and adaptability to ensure our student’s school experience remains “as normal and rich” as it can be through these challenging times. We would also like to thank our families for their understanding and support in these unprecedented times. Together, we have ensured that our beautiful students continue to experience an engaging quality education that they will remember over the challenges COVID has brought in 2022.

With heartfelt thanks

Hannah Lockwood-Jones and Andrew Johnston
