Term 4 – Notices – Week 7

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are pleased to list below our staffing for 2022 for each year level in anticipation of our Orientation Day on Friday. Although teachers will be in their 2022-year levels on the day, student class lists are not finalised and consequently students will not be with their 2022 teacher nor with their 2022 class peers.

Our school has a very low annual staff turnover, and we know that is because our staff love working at St Stephen’s School. Every now and then our turnover is a little more than usual and 2022 seems to be that year.

We will farewell the following staff for various reasons:

Jarrod Heglund is moving to a Year 6 position in another school. Kim Luinstra is embarking on a change of career and taking up a business opportunity of tutoring. Emma Senior is leaving due to family commitments and Carinne Collen is moving to a part time role at another school. Shannon Warrener has applied for and is taking a year’s leave from St Stephen’s School, and we look forward to welcoming her back after her time away. Alana Meuleman has resigned from the school as she is looking for a part time role, however, is currently working with us in running our Nativity for the ELC. As you know Sarah McGrath, Catherine McMahon and Sarah Cribb are still on maternity leave and enjoying their beautiful families. We wish all our staff well on their journey.

We are blessed to welcome our new staff in Andrew Johnston, Naz Omar, Finlay McKay, Alex Righton, Angela Tedesco and Lauren Guarino.

Teachers in year levels for 2022 will be as follows:

Pre-Kindy

Lynne McCarney

Kindy

Narelle Gastevich, Lauren Gaurino, Emma Langstaff

PP

Robyn Bayfield, Gabrielle Ferraro

Year 1

Andraea Egan, Lisa Mason

Year 2

Sally Bampton, Heather King

Year 3

Sharon Baird, Angela Tedesco

Year 4

Alyce Blake, Natasha Zappara

Year 5

Michelle Lewis, Findlay McKay, Alex Righton

Year 6

Lauren Fox, Ted Lewis, Nassim Omar

We look forward to working with our new staff and hope that as you meet them you will make them feel welcome into our wonderful community.

Our final staff changes are for Tracey Hazelden and Joy Ford. Tracey Hazelden has resigned and is embarking on a new adventure to work in a role where she can use her skills of photography which is her passion. Although Joy is moving on from the Primary School, she is fortunately not leaving our School. Joy has accepted a position as Secondary Administration Officer at our Carramar Campus. We will miss Joy and Tracey and wish them well in their new endeavours.

We look forward to an exciting, future focused 2022 and hope that you will enjoy partnering with us as we seek to lead and guide our children to grow to be responsible and active citizens, happy and engaged students!

Kind regards,

Darnelle, Jarrod and Hannah

Class Placement 2022

As we prepare for 2022, we would like to take the opportunity to inform you of the process we use when placing students in their classes for next year. Please note that all teachers place students after examination of several factors which include:

  • Social and emotional concerns
  • Friendship preferences
  • Academic ability
  • Staff observations

Your child’s current class teachers construct their class lists in collaboration with their partner year group Teacher(s), Learning Assistance and Specialist Teachers. Where possible, the teaching staff will provide experiences for students to interact across the classes to also observe student interactions with students not currently in their class.

Once the teachers have completed their class list recommendations, they are forwarded on to the Primary Leadership Team. Class lists are reviewed by leadership.

The process of creating class lists is done carefully and over a period of time. Please be assured that every decision we make is in the best interests of your child and understand that, while we recognise the uniqueness and preferences of each student, we will not guarantee a preferred placement. Please, can I encourage you to trust in the professionalism and dedication of our staff as they consider the many factors in placing your child in a particular class and not make requests for preferred class placements for your child.

You will be notified of your child’s teacher in January 2022 before they commence school on Friday 28 January.

Term 4 – Notices- Week 5

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the parents that have supported the various events across the ELC and 3-6 over the last week. It is lovely to have you join us during events across the School.

Please see below some of the key dates for things happening at both 3-6 and the ELC.

  • Please don’t forget that we have Poppies for sale for Remembrance Day at both the Admin desks (3-6 & ELC).

ELC Nativity

Please ensure that you have collected your tickets for the ELC nativity. If you are having difficulty coming to the ELC to collect tickets, please call the Admin office who will be able to help organise your tickets. Due to seating available, we are only able to offer two tickets per family.

Award Night for ELC students

This year, awards for our Year 1 and 2 students will be presented at the Primary Awards Night. Parents of students receiving awards will be notified before the event. Due to the ELC Nativity being held on the same day, the Awards Night is not compulsory for ELC students, however, they are most welcome to come if they wish to. It is a wonderful evening celebrating the students’ learning and success over the year.

ELC & 3-6 After School Play

Over the years we have encouraged families to stay after school. Our School takes students from a wide catchment area and we see that the play time after school provides families with the opportunity to spend time together before they head home. It also helps to build our community connections. Whilst parents and students are on the School premises (after normal school hours), the same standards of behaviour and communication is expected. Please ensure that the students’ treatment of school property and parent interactions are in line with the School’s Code of Conduct expectations. We enjoy our community being on site and want this to remain a positive space for all.

Please take the time to look at the blog post below and familiarise yourself with other events coming soon.

With warm regards

Hannah Lockwood-Jones and Jarrod Heglund.

Dear Parents,

ELC Nativity 2021

The ELC Nativity Concert will be held on Friday, 3 December, in the Theatre at the Duncraig Campus. Please note the following arrangements for the day.

We ask that all children be dropped at the entrance to the Theatre foyer of the Duncraig Campus from 8:15am. (No later than 8:45am please.)

You are welcome to use the Kiss and Drive facility. If you wish to walk your child in, parking will be available at Hamer Oval. All students will be met at the main doors by an ELC Staff Member. We realise it will be busy. Please help each other by leaving your children with staff, at the door. We ask that you do not come into the building. Please leave the parking area as soon as possible, to help with traffic flow and minimise congestion.

Student requirements:

  • All students are to wear their normal school uniform (striped shirt and navy shorts) on the day, unless previously instructed.
  • Children to wear thongs or sandals.
  • A canvas shopping bag or similar, with their hat, morning tea snack, lunch and drink bottle. (Please make sure everything is clearly named.)

Children will be eating morning tea and lunch wearing their costumes for the concert so it would be appreciated if you could avoid food and drink items that are messy or stain easily.

There are two performances of the Nativity, at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.  You will need your ticket with you when you arrive.

For occupational health and safety reasons we are legally NOT permitted to allow extra people to sit or stand in the Theatre.

We anticipate the second concert will finish around 3:00 pm.  Please remain in the Theatre until all children have left the area. Children will then change back into their school uniforms. Students from Year 1 and 2 will be dismissed from the Theatre door. Kindy and Pre-Primary students will be dismissed from Cousins Hall. Please do not come down to the stage area or into Cousins Hall. We ask that you wait at the entrance of Cousins Hall/Theatre to collect your child/children.

This year will bring a change in the format. Year 1 and 2 Awards will only be presented at the Primary Awards Evening.

We look forward to sharing our wonderful Nativity with you soon!

Kind regards,

Hannah Lockwood-Jones

Deputy Head of the Primary School

Fruitful Harvest Ministries

We are so thankful for all the staff and students at St. Stephen’s School who have continued to support the children in disadvantaged schools in Zimbabwe.

This years donation has allowed us to go to a new school to tell the children about Jesus and they get a packet of eggs to take home to their families.

We are so blessed for the love and concern your students have shown to children they don’t even know!!!   May God bless you.

Tammy 😊💕

Term 4 – Notices – Week 4

Dear Families,

Firstly, we would like to say a huge ‘Thank you’ to all those parents who helped out at the Primary Disco last Friday. It was a fabulous event that was well organised and a great success. It was a wonderful time for our School community to all get-together. We have received very positive feedback from parents and students.

This week there are a number of things happening at both the ELC and 3-6:-

Tuesday 2 November – Tickets for the ELC Nativity will be available to collect from Admin. Unfortunately, due to venue capacity limitations, there is a set number of tickets available to each family group. On Tuesday we also have a tour of the ELC taking place for prospective families 9 – 10 am. If you know of someone who may be interested in sending their child to St Stephen’s School from Kindy, please let me know. They will need to book a place on the tour through enrolments.

Thursday 4 November – It is the ELC Sports Carnival on Hamer Oval 8:45am – 12 noon. Can you please drop off your child at Hamer Oval not the ELC at 8:15am. Buses have been booked to return the students to the ELC.

Friday 5 November – Worship for Year 1 and Year 2. Sharon Kelly will be joining our Worship to talk to the students about the ‘Foster Friends’ gift collections. Families are welcome to come and join us. For those families that are purchasing a gift to donate, please drop off presents at ELC Admin by Tuesday 16 November. 5W will present their assembly at 3-6.

In 3-6 this week, the big event is the Spelling Bee. I know some classes have already started and through some nerves and stress, we are seeing some incredibly talented spellers shining through. As each year group finds their own top spellers we will be having the finals later this week.

For Remembrance Day we also have Poppies for a donation located at the Admin decks on both campuses.

We look forward to seeing you around the School and at the various events that are taking place this week.

Kind regards

Hannah Lockwood-Jones & Jarrod Heglund

School banking closure

As you may be aware the school banking program is closing at the end of 2021, and the last banking day will be 25 November.

We invite all our junior bankers (new and old) to the primary village on this day to claim a farewell gift, regardless of your token total. Please come along if you would like to receive your gift.

As volunteers our mission has always been to help the children develop regular savings habits, and it has been our great pleasure to provide this service to the school community over the years.

Your child’s account will remain open and you can continue banking at Commbank branches or using the Youthsaver app if you wish. Under the current circumstances, we recommend that parents of students with a Commbank account evaluate the options available from all financial institutions to ensure you make the right decision for your family moving forward.

Thank you to all students and parents who have engaged in the program – we will miss you all.

Poppies will be available in the school reception areas and can be purchased for a gold coin donation in the lead up to Remembrance Day, November 11.

All Poppy Appeal donations go directly into assisting veterans, and their families, in need. The importance of these funds continues to be highly relevant as we support veterans of recent conflicts, such as Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor, alongside the aging population from past conflicts.
