Dear Community,
Happy Monday and welcome to a brand new week of learning. We hope you had a restful weekend.
Whether you’re a student, teacher, parent, or staff member, you are a vital part of our vibrant school family. Remember, our journey is more enjoyable when we walk it together, so let’s celebrate our shared experiences and foster an environment of kindness, respect, and cooperation.
Later this term, we have an exciting event planned to celebrate our students’ learning. Our talented students from Year 3 to Year 6 will be showcasing their musical talents during the evening. To ensure that everyone looks their best, we kindly ask that you have your best and brightest uniforms ready for this special occasion. There has been an increase in students wearing the incorrect uniform, such as jewellery, accessories and shoes. For more details on our uniform requirements, please consult the parent handbook, which is available for your reference online (insert below), to ensure that your child is wearing the correct uniform each day.

Invitation: Parent Information Session: Year 7 Gifted & Talented Program
Dear Primary parents/guardians,
If you believe that your child may be academically Gifted, or if you are simply curious about Gifted and Talented opportunities at our school, then please join us for a general information session regarding the St Stephen’s Year 7 Gifted and Talented Program, one of the School’s many academic Enrichment opportunities available in the Secondary school.
When: Wednesday 1st November, 2023 from 4pm-5pm
Where: the Primary Village
Who: all parents and teachers are most welcome
Context: At St Stephen’s School, we passionately believe that all children have gifts and talents and so the School offers a wide variety of Enrichment opportunities for all our students. One such Enrichment opportunity is the Gifted and Talented Program (GAT), which is an invitation-only academic program.
What is Gifted and Talented (GAT) Education?
In Education, “Giftedness [is defined as] potential that is distinctly above average in one or more domains of ability and talent refers to performance that is distinctly above average in one or more fields … to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10% of his or her age peers” (Francoys Gagne, 1999).
How are GAT students identified & selected?
At St Stephen’s School, the Year 7 students, who are invited into the Gifted and Talented Program are identified and selected by an external consultant, in consultation with the GAT Specialist, Mrs Catherine Riddle. Selection is based primarily on objective data; with subjective input from teachers and parents also considered.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
Catherine Riddle.
Gifted and Talented Specialist.
