Term 1 – Week 7 – Notices

Dear Parents,

As we head into Week 7, I just wanted to start with a quick look back to Week 6 and thank Mr Parker, the Year 3-6 staff and many parents who helped to make the Swimming Carnival a fantastic success. A special congratulations to Timea for winning the event by a tiny 6-point margin!

Throughout this week in the ELC, the Book Fair is up and running so please come on in, have a look and buy a book.

With the recent relaxation of restrictions, we are moving back to having all Year 3-6 classes attend our Worship sessions. For now, our assemblies, as well as the ELC worships and assemblies will continue with the smaller, more intimate audience sizes. Of course, parents, please feel free to join us for these events.

On Friday this week, we will be celebrating our cultural diversity through Harmony Day. Please see the details below, and wear as much orange as you can on the day.

Last Wednesday 9 March saw our Connecting in Conversations evening held in the Primary Village. Five broad areas were discussed by members of the leadership team. Below is a short description of these areas and the team member who covered this information:

Partnerships  – Donella Beare (Principal).

Funding  –  Kevin Smout (Chair of Council St Stephen’s School).

Gifted and Talented – Talent Development – Jarrod Heglund (Deputy Primary).

Learning Enrichment  – Darnelle Pretorius (Head of Campus).

Communication  –  Hannah Lockwood Jones (Deputy Primary).

Duncraig Capital Works update – Rob Gotti ( Director Finance & Administration)

Please feel free chat to others who attended this evening for details, or arrange to meet with Jarrod and Hannah.

From the discussions, the following action points we raised:

  • Consider an Online Platform for virtual meetings
  • Explore extended Extra Curriculum activities for afterschool
  • Develop parent run Project based fund raising for areas of need at the school

Have a wonderful week!

Jarrod Heglund and Hannah Lockwood-Jones

There are many worthwhile causes to support throughout the year and this is one that I would like to draw attention to. In 2014, my then three year old daughter was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Thanks to a privileged medical system and God’s mercy, my daughter is now fit and well. She is in her fifth year since treatment finished and her recovery has been very positive.

Throughout that treatment period and even beyond, the support for families dealing with blood cancers has been amazing. Fundraising initiatives like the Greatest Shave helped our family through a difficult time of our lives. We are extremely grateful to all of the selfless people who have generously given to this cause.

To further the cause, I would like to support the World’s Greatest Shave at St Stephen’s School. For those interested in supporting this fundraising effort, these are the details…

  1. Our Greatest Shave Day will be held on Thursday 1 April(last day of term 1)
  2. Participating on the day can be done in the following ways

a.       Register online with parent permission (parents please email me at daniel.parker@ststephens.w.aedu.au to express consent), fundraise and then have hair shaved or cut (you must be registered and have sent in parental permission and fundraised to do the shave or cut)

b.       Don’t register online, but still colour your hair at home or wear a wig and then bring a donation on the day

  1. Students/staff/parents can support by giving online or registering as a participant at the link below

https://secure.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/registrant/TeamFundraisingPage.aspx?_ga=2.38365475.1407624395.1612403321-1206129850.1581036005&TeamID=123423

*Under the green box saying “sponsor our team”, in little text it says “or sign up and join our team” – click on that to join.

I am fully aware that there are many worthwhile causes to support, so please do not feel any obligation to give to this fundraising, but of course we welcome it if you are willing and able.

Term 1 – Notices – Week 6

Dear Families,

We had so much fun with a range of activities happening across the school last week. Today, Years 4 & 6 had their worship assembly, all about ‘The Keys’ and how they help us grow. Parents and families are always welcome to come and see Mr Steven, and the House captains in action at this fun-filled, Bible-based worship.

On Wednesday 10 March, there is a Biblical Studies Coffee morning for parents from 8.30am to 9.30am in the Primary Village. Please come along and hear about what is being taught in Biblical Studies, meet other parents and spend time together. Later on Wednesday evening, we are holding the ‘Connecting in Conversations’ evening. This is a chance for parents to come and hear from the school’s leadership. The evening will run from 6:45pm until approximately 7:45pm in the Year 3-6 Primary Village. We hope to see you there.

This Thursday 11 March, we are holding a Twilight Tour Duncraig Campus 5.30pm to 6.30pm. If you know of people that may be interested a future enrolment in our School, please let them know. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet staff and show case the learning that is taking place across the school.

Friday 12 March

Mrs Egan’s class are holding their class assembly at 9.00am in the ELC Forum. Parents and families of 1E are invited to come and see the class assembly. Over at 3-6 they have the Primary Interhouse Swimming Carnival at HBF Arena Joondalup.

Please also check the blog below for a range of upcoming events!

As we look over the events that are available each week for our students, it is a reminder of how lucky we are to participate in these activities at this current time in our world. We are truly blessed in being able to do so much as a school community and we are very grateful. We also pray for others across the world who’s journey has been quite different from ours in recent months.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Have a wonderful week.

Hannah Lockwood-Jones & Jarrod Heglund

We have a few events coming up this week:

  • Tue-Fri is Year 5 surfing lessons. The weather looks glorious!
  • ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ cross-campus drama production. Running from 24-27 Feb. Tickets from https://events.humanitix.com/tlww
  • Worship at the ELC. 8:45am.

Thank you all for a wonderful start to the year.

Mobile Phone Post at Primary School – Y3 to Y6

Dear Parents & Guardians,

At the start of the year, I just wanted to send a quick reminder that Primary Students are not permitted to have their phone on their person during school hours, i.e. from the time they arrive at school until the end of the school day. If students must bring a mobile phone to school, then during school hours, the phone must remain in the student’s school bag, securely closed.

For students with smart watches, these need to be on airplane mode during the day. Exceptions are allowed for students who have approval from the Head of Campus to use a phone to monitor health conditions.

If students need to contact their parents/carers, they can do so through the Primary Office. Likewise, if parents/carers need to get a message to their children, they can call the Primary Office directly.

In addition, it is recommended that parents consider insurance for all personal items such as phones, because the school cannot reimburse the cost of damaged, lost or stolen items.

If you have any enquiries, please contact me.

Kind regards

Jarrod Heglund

Term 1 – Notices – Week 3

Dear Families,

It’s lovely to return to the rhythm of school days and also good to no longer wear face masks at school! As some restrictions are now eased, should your child’s class be in attendance at worship or assembly you are more than welcome to come too. It was lovely to see Year 3 and 5 parents join us at this morning’s worship. This week in Primary School, the Year 6 students start their surfing lessons from Tuesday 16 February to Friday 19 February.  On Wednesday 17 February, the youngest students in our school have their Pre-Kindy Photos day at ELC. Please also keep an eye on your child’s class blog for information about the next worship or assembly they will be attending.

As we start the year, this is a gentle reminder regarding the speed at which you travel through the campus. Please ensure that you adhere to the speed limits in the school. It is also important to park in designated areas. This helps with the flow of traffic but also provides our children with safe areas for them to embark and disembark from vehicles. We kindly ask you not to park in the kiss and drive areas as this significantly impacts other car users and our students. If you need to walk your child into the school, you must park in a designated parking bay rather than using the kiss and drive.

We recently have had a few students being dropped off very early at both the Primary School and ELC. Please be aware that staff attend meetings and devotions. We do not have staff on duty before 8.10am at 3-6, and 8.15am at the ELC. If you need out of school hour care, O.S.H service is available. We want to ensure that students are safe at all times.

New PK – Year 6 parents: Just a reminder to update your details on Consent2Go.  This is important for medication, excursions and photograph consent, etc.  Please click on Parent Portal link https://portal.ststephens.wa.edu.au/parent-and-student/  and then click on ‘Update your details’.

For existing parents please ensure that you have updated any changes you might need to make on your child’s consent to go. It is very important that this information is correct.

Thank you to the families who have participated in the box construction project. We have seen some fantastic creative designs. Well done!

We hope you have a fantastic week and look forward to seeing you around the school.

God Bless

Hannah Lockwood-Jones and Jarrod Heglund.

Dear Parents,

Throughout this year, we understand that we may be needing to utilise Microsoft Teams for part of our teaching and learning. If you, or your child, have not downloaded it yet, could you please follow these“Instructions” and login using your child/children’s school username and password. If you could assist us by doing this, that would be greatly appreciated as a proactive step towards future use.

Kind regards,

Jenny Mallis

St Stephen’s Primary – World’s Greatest Shave 2021

Term 1 – Notices – Week 2

Dear Parents,

We’re back! And we’re so glad about it! Thank you so much for your understanding and assistance with the distancing and restrictions that are in place for this week. We have had a beautiful start to week and are looking forward to even more joy coming our way.

We just wanted to let you know of a change to the Parent Information Evenings that were planned for last week. Obviously, with the restrictions that are, and have been, in place, we haven’t been able to run these events. However, we also understand that getting to know your child’s teacher is very important, as is the information that they would typically pass on at those sessions. With this in mind, please keep your eye out for this week’s classroom blogs as the teachers will be using that format to pass on the information about themselves and their year groups that they normally would in person.

As restrictions ease, please do feel comfortable to contact the teacher(s) to find a suitable time to come in if you would like to catch up face-to-face.

Kind regards,

Jarrod Heglund and Hannah Lockwood-Jones.

Important message from Leadership

Dear Families,

As we now navigate this unexpected change to our first week back, we just wanted to touch base with you.

Please be reassured that there is no reason to worry or fear about your child’s learning journey. As always, your child is at the forefront of our thinking. We ask that you convey to them our love and reassure them that we will be here to support them. Can you also let your child know that their teacher is preparing something for them which will be posted on their Year Level blog. We would appreciate if you could look at it with them later today or first thing tomorrow morning. Further information will be sent out from the School in the coming days which will be more specific to your child’s learning for the week.

Please feel free to email us if you have any questions but, as mentioned, a formal communication will be emailed to you later today.

Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with you and let’s hope that it will only be for this week.

God bless

Term 4 – Notices – Week 9

Dear Parents,

Last week we had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate the end of our school year at different events. The Year 1 & 2 Nativity went ahead and was a truly lovely performance. Presentation Nights for Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 showcased sensational singing and fantastic montages of learning and events in the school year. It was a celebration for all that has been achieved. On behalf of the school, we would just like to thank you for your patience and support as we navigated the Covid restrictions to hold these community events. For the ELC Nativity parents, there were very tight restrictions on ticket allocation and for some Primary parents who attend both Presentation Night celebrations, this meant leaving seating to return and then listen to some elements of the evening again. Thank you so much for your selflessness in doing this. We appreciate your compliance which shows support for the school and community.

We have now come to our final week of school for 2020. It is a fun-packed week with lots of events happening across the Primary School. On Tuesday 8 December our Year 6 students have their Graduation at 8.45am in the Gymnasium. Morning tea will then be served in the foyer at 10.00am. At 10.30am the Year 6 students will leave the school to compete in an Amazing Race around the city centre.

On our last day, Wednesday 9 December we will have our Year 2 Farewell Assembly at 9.00am in the ELC Forum. All Year 2 families are invited to this event.

The ELC will finish at 12.50pm to provide families with the opportunity to collect their children and then go to the Primary School (collect older children if needed) ready for the Family Picnic. All 3-6 students will finish at 1.00pm. The Family Picnic, for parents and students K-6, will be located on the Primary Oval from 1.00pm – 2.00pm. There will be some inflatable ‘slides’ for the students to play on, some of which involve water, so be sure to be prepared for that. All children must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

As we end this year there are a number of staff that we will sadly say good bye to:-

Mrs Michelle Boyd has been on leave for this year and has decided to not return to her fixed position. Mrs Boyd has worked at the ELC for a number of years. We are so pleased that she will continue her work at the ELC relief in positions.

Mrs Rachael Fleet will be leaving us to have her first baby due before the end of this year. Mrs Fleet has been a wonderful Kindy and Pre Primary teacher. She has been at the ELC for six years, previously working at the Carramar campus. We wish her all the very best as she begins a new season in her life and we look forward to her return in the future.

Ms Amy Kirkness joined us this year as a Year 1 teacher, covering maternity leave. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and care for the students. Ms Kirkness also is starting a exciting season in her life as she will become Mrs Charles in a few weeks. We wish you both the very best for your future together.

Mrs Crackle also joined us this year, as Year 2 teacher. Mrs Crackle is due to have her first child early next year.  She has been a fantastic  teacher and a wonderful addition to the ELC team . We wish you all the best.

Mrs Sarah McGrath will be leaving us at the end of this year as she is due to have baby number two soon. We would like to thank her work in Year 4 and wish her the very best with baby No.2.

You will be notified of staffing for 2021 before the children return to school.

Finally, on behalf of all the staff at the ELC and Primary School, we would like to thank you for your support over this year. We have navigated many changes and alterations throughout this year. To the many parents that showed additional care, patience and kindness to staff, it was truly appreciated and reflected the heart of our community.

We look forward to seeing you all when the students return on Friday 29 January 2021. To those students moving on to the Secondary School, we wish you the very best for the next part of your educational journey.

We pray that you have a wonderful and safe Christmas holiday.

God bless.

Hannah Lockwood-Jones and Jarrod Heglund

2021 School fee payment options

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

In 2021, the School will be simplifying the annual school fee notification and payment selection process for parents. Parents / Guardians will no longer be required to re-select a preferred payment method and frequency at the start of the school year.

The payment method (direct debit, or credit card, or BPAY) and frequency of payment (weekly, fortnightly, monthly, three instalments or annual upfront) that you had in place in 2020 will continue automatically in 2021.

The dates to note for payments (based on frequency) next year are:

1 upfront payment due on 29 January 2021 (2% discount); or

43 weekly payments starting 4 February 2021; or

22 fortnightly payments starting 4 February 2021; or

10 monthly payments starting on 2 February 2021; or

10 monthly payments starting on 17 February 2021; or

3 instalments (BPAY only) on 18 February 2021, 20 May 2021 and 19 August 2021

You will not be required to take any action, unless you would like to change the method of payment or frequency of payments. In which case, please contact the Accounts Receivable team on 9243 2103 or email accountsreceivable@ststephens.wa.edu.au as soon as possible.

If you wish to change your credit card, or bank account details, you are able to do this at any time throughout the year via the Parent Portal. Click on the ‘School Payments’ tab and select Manage stored cards and direct debits to bank accounts (https://edinfo.ststephens.wa.edu.au/ManageStoredCards.aspx).

On 11 January 2021 your annual fee invoice will be available for you to view on the Parent Portal in the ‘School Payments’ tab – select Statements and receipt history (https://edinfo.ststephens.wa.edu.au/fin.aspx).

All the best for the holidays and wishing you a Happy Christmas,

From the Accounts Receivable Team.

For those who did not bring in their gold coin donation, please do so tomorrow.

LEGO MASTERS

The FIRST Lego League RePlay challenge was mastered by our Carramar Primary team at the weekend! The team won each category and the regional competition, Carramar Secondary placed second and Duncraig Primary also placed to advance in the competition. Our four teams worked hard in the lead up to the big event, creating robots and developing innovation projects. Congratulations to all students involved and thanks to staff and parents who assisted our teams. We are looking forward to the national competition at Curtin University on December 12!

SINGING SPECTACULAR
Primary students at Duncraig showcased their singing talent at the annual Choral Festival last week. This year’s event was adjudicated by Mary-Anne Goyder, who gave constructive feedback to students and chose a winning class from each year group. Students performed to a very high standard and impressed the audience with their performances throughout the day.

ELC GARDEN PROJECT

In Term 3, with the help of a PALS grant, we started work on our new garden at the ELC. We now have a beautiful vegetable garden, an area growing Noongar bush tucker and a new outdoor classroom space. The Pre-Primary and Year 2 children have recently reaped the rewards of fresh vegetables, which we have used to create some delicious foods.

Many people worked on the project including Sarah Mornement, the school maintenance team, Robyn Mcloughlin and her team of budding artists from the primary school and the staff and children of the ELC.

THANK YOU FOR THE GENEROUS DONATIONS OF CHRISTMAS HAMPER ITEMS FOR FAMILIES IN NEED.

Sign up for the SUMMER SPECIAL with workshops starting from $99 a day and running from 10am-4pm between January 11 and 15 at the School’s Duncraig Campus. Find out more at firetechcamp.com.au

Term 4 – Notices – Week 7

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Week 7! As we head into this week, I just wanted to share a little bit about what Mr Steven encouraged the Year 3-5 students with, in our worship session this morning. It was a great message about the power of the tongue, that I’m sure we can all learn from. Our words that we use can have such an incredible impact and within moments, we can switch from using them for praise to using them for trash (James 3:9). Our students listened beautifully and were encouraged to imagine little ‘Buckingham Palace guards’ placed next to their mouths to help guard what is allowed out (Psalm 141:3).

Here are a few important dates coming up over the next week. Please also continue to check your class blog.

Friday 27 November

Kindy Assembly at ELC

Year 6 bike excursion to Sorrento Beach

Assembly for Years 5 & 6 to farewell 2020 Semester 2 House Captains and announce those for Semester 1 2021.

Saturday 28 November

Year 5 excursion to Parliament House

Kind regards,

Jarrod Heglund and Hannah Lockwood-Jones

NOTE FOR PARENTS

At the end of Term 4 our school day will finish early.

The ELC students will finish at 12.50pm and Yrs 3 – 6 students will finish at 1.00pm.

There is no supervision after 1pm and we ask parents to collect their children promptly.

Family Picnic from 1pm – 2pm on the Primary Oval

Parents and students from K – Year 6 are invited to join in for a family picnic on the Primary Oval. The School will organise some fun and games which include 2 bouncy castles and 2 water slides. BYO picnic, blankets, shade, sportswear that can get wet, towels, sunscreen, hats, etc. If parents wish to purchase an ice cream, snow cone or coffee, vans will be on site.   Please note that this is strictly a non-alcoholic and smoke free event.   Please consider Covid-19 social distancing measures.

As this is a community event, children need to be supervised by parents at all times, including on the School’s play equipment. Although teachers may be in the area they will not be available for supervision during this time.  Students must have a guardian present when attending this event.

We hope you will enjoy this time with friends across the primary school and we look forward to a fun afternoon to finish off the year.

ROADWORKS ON DOVERIDGE DRIVE

We have been advised by the City of Joondalup that necessary asphalt resurfacing works will be taking place on Doveridge Dr from 23 November and should be completed within 8 weeks.  The extent of the work is between Curbur Rd south to Winster Close.

Thank you for your patience during these roadworks.

Reminder … please book seats

YEARS 3 – 6 Attention Parents who have purchase items from Campion for 2021

It has come to our attention that an item on the Resource list, namely Book Covers – Exercise 9 x 7  Pkt 5, are too small and should be A4 book covers.  If you placed your order with Campion before Friday 6 November, please bring the unopened small book covers to your class teacher on the first day back in 2021 and we will swap these for the correct size.  If you ordered after Friday 6 November, you will have received the correct size.

Thank you for your understanding
