Term 3 – Notices – Week 3

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Week 3. I just wanted to take this opportunity to encourage you, if you haven’t already, to watch a recent TED talk by a seven year old girl, Molly Wright (https://www.ted.com/talks/molly_wright_how_every_child_can_thrive_by_five?language=en). Dr Pretorius recently used this as a basis to present a devotion to the staff at school, and I found it to be both challenging and inspirational. Essentially, it’s a message about the power of connection – particularly connection between parents and their young children. It really is worth watching. To take it to another level, Dr Pretorius challenged us on also thinking through the need that we have for a true connection with God. Again, if you haven’t already, it really is worth watching.

Here are a few dates and events to keep in mind for this week.

  • Monday 9 August
    • Year 1 “101 Day Celebration”
    • Year 2 to attend Primary (3-6) Worship 8:45am
    • Year 4B Camp starts (through Wednesday)
  • Wednesday 11 August
    • Year 4M Camp starts (through Friday)

2021 Inter House Athletics Carnival

Wednesday 8 September – jumps, throws, 800m

Friday 10 September – sprints and team games

I am in need of more parent help on Wednesday 8 September for the jumps and throws. The role would involve managing an event like shot put eg measuring. There will be a staff member plus high school students helping you. There are two sessions on the day. Session one from 8:35a to 10:40a and session two from 11a to 1p. If you are able to help then please let me know if you can do both sessions or just one session. It will be possible for you to disappear for a moment to watch your child do their attempt if you wish to. Let me know at daniel.parker@ststephens.wa.edu.au if you are able to help.

Thursday morning sprint training and Friday morning jumps and throws training: It has been wonderful to see many students attending these sessions, obviously keen to be active and improve. I just want to remind students that whilst we want you to enjoy these sessions, please ensure that your behaviour is always considerate and encouraging. Let’s create an environment that allows all students to pursue their very best. Parents that are able to attend the Friday morning jumps and throws, please feel free to have input in coaching the students if you have knowledge or experience.
