Term 2 – Week 1 – Notices

Welcome back! It is so lovely to see all the students return today. We hope you enjoyed a break in routine and some time together.

We have a few items to bring to your attention before your child’s class teacher updates you with more class specific information tomorrow.

First Week Back Events:

ELC

Friday 28 April, 9am – Worship

3-6

Friday 28 April, 2.30pm – ANZAC assembly run by the House Captains & Mr Johnston

ELC- Afterschool Play

The number of students attending O.S.H after school has risen significantly. As a result, OSH requires the use of the Year 1 -2 playground from 3.45pm onwards. This will mean that this playground is out of use for the community from 3.45 pm. If you would like to stay and play, please use the large playground and oval as an alternative play space. We also kindly ask that students do not come into the ELC building after 3.20pm as OSH use the building and its facilities after school hours. Should your child need to use the bathroom please use the visitors toilet at reception. We thank you in advance in supporting a service that is well utilised by our community.

ELC Mother’s Day – Save the Date

Our ELC Mother’s Day and Special Guests will be taking place on Friday 12 May, 8.30 – 9.45am. Please see the attached flyer.

3-6 Parking Tomorrow

We request for 3-6 parents that all cars are moved off the Doveridge Drive verge by 9am at the latest tomorrow please. Secondary are holding their Interhouse Cross Country carnival between 8.30-10am, and due to roadworks on the eastern side of the freeway, students will now be running this route.

Clubs

Information and booking of our clubs will be available later next week. Please ensure you take note of the time when booking opens as there are limited spaces for each activity.

Thank you

Thank you for your very kind generosity and contribution to our non-uniform day fundraiser last term, please see the flyer below for total funds raised for the SABA Rose Button Foundation.

We look forward to seeing you around school soon.

Term 1 – Week 10- Notices

We would like to thank you for all of the support you provided to the school this term. When reflecting, it has been wonderful to look back at all of the fantastic events that have happened over the last 10 weeks and a stark contrast from this time last year, when COVID restrictions stopped so much happening.

Our Year 2 camp day last Friday was a huge success. The students were very engaged and had a lot of fun. We would like to thank the amazing staff who contributed to this experience.

Friday also saw the inter-school swimming carnival at the HBF Arena in Joondalup. A selection of Year 3-6 students went along to represent St Stephen’s School as we competed against 7 other schools in a variety of races. Congratulations to all the students. They were fantastic ambassadors of the school and competed really well resulting in us finishing 3rd overall. Well done to all who competed.

Primary Cross Country

In Term 2 on Friday 19 May, we will have our Inter House Cross Country which will be held on school grounds. From the Inter House competition, the top 6 boys and top 6 girls will be selected for our Inter School team who will compete at Mawson Park, Hillarys on Friday 23 June.

I have attached maps below for our Inter House. Year 3s run 1500m, Year 4s run 2000m and year 5 and 6 both run 2500m.

I strongly urge students hoping to do well to start planning and preparing for the competition. Cross Country is a sport where careful and consistent preparation can make a significant difference. Cross Country is also a sport where hard work and determination bring obvious results. With the time frame that we have now before competition, I would recommend students are running their distance, plus some, about three times a week. I would use google maps with Parental input to determine a suitable course in the neighbourhood and I would record the time taken to run the distance for each practice session. Recording the times will give motivation to push harder.

When back at school, students will be walked through their course sometime before competition day. Students will also be able to participate in training sessions. Training sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuesday sessions will begin at 7:45am sharp on Hamer Oval and finish at approximately 8:15am. Friday sessions will be held at 1:05pm and lunch can be eaten after the session ends. If students do not have PE on that day then they may need a change of clothes or shoes.

I look forward to watching students enjoy success from hard work.

Primary Interschool Swimming

I would like to sing the praises of the students that represented St Stephens at the recent interschool swimming competition. I am incredibly proud of them. Not only did they conduct themselves with integrity but through hard work and effort, they were able to demonstrate the very best of their skills and abilities. In the end we finished a very respectable third.
