Term 2, Week 5 Notices

Community Freezer

We are continuing with our initiative of the school community freezer. It is located in the ‘Get Well Room’ in the Primary School Office. The purpose of this freezer is to support families from Pre-Kindy to Year 12 at SSS Duncraig with a home cooked meal when they are going through a very difficult family situation.

If you would like to contribute to this freezer by cooking a meal, we would greatly appreciate it. We are looking for simple, nutritious meals that are both family and freezer friendly. These include meat and vegetable-based casseroles, lasagnes, hearty soups and mild curries. Please do not use any nut or nut products. Please include all components of the meal e.g. “Casserole with rice” to make it as easy as possible for the families receiving the meals.

Please follow the steps below:

Read the food safety link: https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/conditionsandtreatments/handwashing-why-its-important

1) Choose your own recipe or look for one at: http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/collections/freezer-friendly

2) Buy the ingredients.

3) Ensure your hands are adequately washed. https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/food-safety-when-cooking

4) Cook the meal.

5) Cool the meal and pack in a reusable or recyclable container (either donate a container or collect a foil container from next to the freezer at school – photo below

6) Label the meal (stickers are available next to the freezer at school) – photo below

7) Freeze the meal.

8) Bring the frozen meal to school and place in the freezer for another family to enjoy!

Thank you for your support.

Recycling – Next Level

Lucas from our ELC has decorated a collection bin for recycling plastic lids and rings. Did you know that these are not recyclable through your kerbside fortnightly collection? Find the green bin (pictured below) in the ELC reception area so you can drop off your clean plastic lids and rings. Together we CAN make a difference.

Separately, we are also collecting pumps, sprays and triggers (and other bits) primarily from beauty products that are not accepted through our usual fortnightly kerbside collection. Thanks to the Kraut Family for making us aware of this and for providing the box for our recyclables to go to Terracycle. See the poster below.

Welcome back

The 5 Keys

Over the course of Term 1, we have been reviewing the use and purpose of awards given out at assemblies. Starting next term, we will be using ‘The 5 Keys’ identified in the front of the student diaries as the basis for recognition for positive behaviour in the school. Mr Steven will be reviewing the keys (roughly one per term) with the students as part of the worship gatherings, giving students a clear idea of what each one means.

As a student shows these kinds of behaviours, members of staff are able to recognise their effort by adding a signature to the ‘keys’ table at the front of the student’s diary. Once five signatures are received for a particular key, the student will visit the Deputy of Primary for congratulations and to receive their key card. Once all five keys have been obtained, the student will be presented with a certificate at an upcoming worship session.

We look forward to recognising the wonderful behaviour that our students exhibit here at St Stephen’s.

Kind regards,

Hannah Lockwood-Jones and Jarrod Heglund

Staff changes in the 3 – 6 and ELC Offices

As some of you may be aware, there have been some changes in the administration staff in the Primary Offices. Mrs Carrigg and Mrs van der Merwe are much-loved members of the St Stephen’s community, so we just wanted to let you know that they have stretched out and taken on other positions within the school. Mrs Carrigg will be one of the Personal Assistants to the Deputy Head of Primary (ELC), while Mrs van der Merwe is now the Student Services Administration Officer in Secondary. We truly wish them well in their new positions and we look forward to welcoming a new face to our Primary Reception in the near future.

ELC Kiss ‘n Drive Important Information

Dear Parents,

Over the past couple of weeks, we have had a number of parents parking in the Kiss and Drive area of the ELC. This has caused huge problems for other parents that are trying to drop their children off. Last Monday we had eight cars parked in the Kiss and Drive area which meant that the entire area was inaccessible for drop off. Parents were then forced to stop in the road and let their children out. This then affected the flow of traffic coming in and out of the school.

We ask that you please respect others as you drop off your children to school and do not park in the Kiss and Drive area. There are parking places available opposite Kindy and Pre Primary and surrounding the oval.

Thank you for keeping our children and our community safe and for assisting us with the smooth flow of traffic through our school.

Our New Outdoor Space

We have a new outdoor classroom area which we can also use as a fire pit during the cooler months. On Saturday morning, Stuart Proudfoot, who is one of our parents, kindly delivered all the logs used for this project. After a few hours work the area now looks fantastic. We wanted to say a huge thank you to Stuart, Ben and Tree Amigos for helping us to complete this project. Thank you for donating both the logs and your own personal time, we really appreciate your kindness.
