A Bethany Big Thank you

The note below is from our beautiful Mrs Mallis who has worked tirelessly with and for the people at Bethany Home. On Friday morning Mrs Jamison and the Year 2’s presented Mrs Mallis with roughly $280, raised from the coin trail last Wednesday at the ELC.

Thanks, to you and your students support and fundraising endeavours, we have today reached our target amount for Bethany of $1,500.00. These funds will go towards purchasing new technology, printers, a class set of new noise suppressant headphones and iTunes gift cards to purchase apps to put on the Bethany iPads.
I can’t express enough, the impact that this donation will make in the lives of the Bethany staff and students, I will take photos and videos whist there so that I can show our students, upon my return, what their fundraising endeavours have gone towards achieving.

Deputies Newsletter

Dear Parents

Over the term, our students have been focusing on what initiative means and looks like when alone, with peers or with their families. They have been challenged in their thinking and have been given some ‘I wills’ when recognising and doing what needs to be done before asked to do it.

I will:

Do what is right before being told.

Look for ways to help others.

Further on from that, they have been encouraged to learn the action of ‘scopin’; being alert to the needs of others around us and then act quickly to assist others using our initiative.

We have seen that students who demonstrate these traits are well placed to be successful in their learning and friendships. The students are also able to work through examples of what this looks like at home and school and were given a snap shot of how they can become more attentive.

During the past week, a parent shared with us how her little boy of 4 years old has been showing initiative at home. He has been assisting his Mum with folding of the washing and now sets the dinner table with a willing heart. In the Mum’s own words, “It takes a village to raise a child, thank you ALL for being a huge part of our village”.

We encourage parents and families to support their children in developing these skills so that it becomes second nature. We also ask that any good news stories are shared with us, as we want to celebrate together.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ”. Colossians 3: 23 – 24

Have a fabulous week ahead.

Kind Regards,

Richard and Vernita

Meet Betty – the food van

If you haven’t already had the pleasure – meet Betty (pictured with our lovely D&T Teacher Mr Matt Kirby). Betty is part of the School’s Service Learning project which will see the beloved old caravan given a makeover and transformed into a mobile food service to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

Students have spent time fixing the ol’ gal up, along with help from our community and volunteers. Betty is at the stage where she will soon be fitted with a whole new set of cabinetry courtesy of Kitchen Craftsman. Yet before the Kitchen Craftsman team come in, we have to do some behind-the-scenes work and we need your help!

We’re putting the call out to our community to see if anyone might be interested in helping out with donating any of the below items to get Betty one step closer to hitting the road with the School’s Service Learning programs.

If you are able to help out with donations of any of the below items or even time to work on Betty with us, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact Service Learning Coordinator Donna Lund on donna.lund@ststephens.wa.edu.au.
